REPORTS TO: Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)

FLSA STATUS: Hourly

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for assisting the RSO (EHS) with the implementation of the Industrial Safety and Environmental Monitoring Programs at the Ross ISR Project. This includes assessing and mitigating workplace hazards, maintaining environmental monitoring sites and collecting environmental monitoring data.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Assist with the implementation of the Industrial Safety Program including; conducting safety inspections at the Central Processing Facility (CPP), operating wellfield and wellfield drilling operations, the identification of workplace hazards, and the mitigation of identified safety concerns.
  • Assist with the implementation of the Environmental Monitoring Program including; the routine sampling of water, soil and air to meet regulatory requirements, maintaining automated monitoring equipment in working order, sending environmental samples to contract laboratories and maintaining records of environmental monitoring data.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the proper operation of instruments used to monitor working conditions and minimize exposure to workplace hazards in accordance with OSHS requirements.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining written industrial safety protection monitoring procedures and with implementation of and emergency response programs.
  • Assist with training employees, contractors and visitors in industrial safety protection and hazards of the facility.
  • As directed by the RSO carry out or assist with other duties related to the Industrial Safety and Environmental Monitoring Programs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

To qualify for this position an individual must be knowledgeable of the OSHA safety and health standards for construction (OSHA 1926) and general industry (OSHA 1910). The individual should also be knowledgeable of environmental monitoring methods. Previous experience with industrial safety and/ or environmental monitoring at a uranium recovery facility, industrial facility, mining or similar operation is desirable. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and related experience. A two-year technical degree in industrial safety, environmental science, or a similar field is desired but not required. Additional experience in industrial safety and/or environmental monitoring is desirable but not required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to deal with vendors in the specification and ordering of basic construction materials.

MATHEMATICAL/COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to use basic computer word processing, spreadsheet and database programs (i.e. Word, Excel, Access) desirable.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to assess simple problems with equipment and figure out appropriate repairs.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

A valid class “A” driver’s license is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to hazards typically associated with a uranium ISR plant facility which includes the presence of low levels of radioactive materials and radiation, low to moderate noises levels, moving equipment, slips on wet surfaces, and trips related to uneven ground and facility equipment. Duties of this job may occasionally require the employee to contend with cold and unfavorable weather conditions in the field.
